Dear Friends of Resilient Ready,
A lot can change in four weeks! Since we last went to press, a major conflict has broken out in the Middle East, impacting global stability, just weeks after Founder Renae Hanvin returned from Dubai, where she attended the World Governments Summit 2026.
As a result of the hostilities, a potential global fuel crisis is now looming, and has already driven up prices at the bowser and sparked panic buying. Add to that the inevitable supply chain issues and rising transport costs, an unfolding economic crisis driven by high inflation and interest rates, and talk of a recession, and it looks like 2026 certainly won't be a boring year!
In Australia, a country with a population of 27.3 million spread over vast distances, we find ourselves in an incredibly vulnerable position. While we hear people cracking jokes about 'Covid 2.0,' nobody wants to see the clock wound back to 2020 - there is nothing funny about a weak economy, an unstable geopolitical climate, and the threat of crippled transport, food, and industry supply chains.
But this complicated scenario does give us pause for thought - what does your business or organisation need to keep running? If your essential operations were disrupted tomorrow, could you keep trading? As part of our micro-learning focus, we developed a mini-module to help you brainstorm your strategy for staying ahead of business disruptions in 2026.
Looking for further inspiration? Tune into our Doing Disasters Differently podcast. Renae speaks to movers and shakers across government, industry, and the not-for-profit sectors about trends and innovations in disaster preparedness, recovery, and the building of social capital to create more connected communities.
Speaking of social capital, Australian state and federal departments are buzzing with interest over our social capital and social infrastructure mapping tool and its relevance both in and out of the disaster space. We call it the 'missing link' in disaster resilience, and you can read more about our trailblazing work here.
If you're keen to talk to us about building social capital within your community, or boosting your disaster preparedness as a business, organisation, or not-for-profit, get in touch.
