eNews Update - August 2025

Dear Friends of Resilient Ready,

As this newsletter lands in your inbox, Resilient Ready is taking up position in Resilience Lane at the Australian Disaster Resilience Conference (AIDR) conference in Perth. It's always such a great opportunity to connect with people from across Australia who work in the emergency management and resilience sector. If you're attending this year, be sure to stop by and say hi!

We recently welcomed a new face to the Resilient Ready team - Raymund Abadour GIS Analyst for all things social capital and social infrastructure. Raymund is working closely with us on our Social Capital and Social Infrastructure Measurement Framework, and we're so pleased to have his skills on the project.

Our Walcha Spontaneous Volunteer grant project is getting underway. We are creating a business community-led approach to develop a new framework for the community so they can harness the goodwill that arrives in the form of spontaneous volunteers during emergencies. You can read more about that below.

And next month Resilient Ready Founder Renae Hanvin will be attending the 'After the Fire USA Summit' in Sonoma, California, as a Wildfire Leadership Summit Keynote Speaker, bringing her global perspective and experience in building community resilience. It's a rare and exciting opportunity to showcase the work Resilient Ready is doing in Australia before an international audience.

Our popular podcast, 'Doing Disasters Differently', has some cracking interviews. We talk to experts from across the spectrum of emergency management, resilience and disaster recovery, sharing ideas, innovations and insights. If you haven't already, cue up some episodes to listen to during your commute.

We may be (very!) busy, but we're always open to new partnerships. Find out how Resilient Ready can work with your organisation or community by dropping us a line.

The Resilient Ready Team.

Mapping invisible ties with visible benefits

How do you measure the invisible? And why does it matter? That’s what we set out to explore through our Social Capital and Social Infrastructure Measurement Framework as we work to help communities and governments measure what truly matters to reduce disaster risk and build long-term resilience.

Welcoming volunteers the Walcha way

We're working with the people of Walcha to develop a community-led framework for welcoming and managing spontaneous volunteers across the local area. Walcha has faced its share of challenges, from bushfires and severe storms to a snow event that cut the community off from surrounding regions.
